A proud Democrat, Representative Park Cannon serves the 58th District of the Georgia House of Representatives with deep passion and commitment. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a Georgia native, she is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on her diverse and vibrant district.

Representative Cannon and her family have long been residents of the Old Fourth Ward. Born at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital near Albany State College, her father, a Vietnam veteran, retired as a Master Sergeant, while her mother worked as a pharmaceutical representative from Camilla.

From an early age, Representative Cannon was inspired by civil rights issues and frequently visited sites associated with Martin Luther King Jr. Her experiences, including witnessing Confederate flags and KKK materials in her community, deeply influenced her commitment to social justice.

Young, politicized, and African American, Representative Cannon celebrated President Obama’s historic nomination by creating and performing a modern dance piece titled “Yes, We Can!” before her classmates, teachers, and faculty. After high school, she attended Chapman University in Los Angeles and later enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated with degrees in Hispanic Linguistics and Linguistics, and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies.

There is not just one District 58—there is a rainbow of experiences and needs. Similarly, Georgia is not a singular entity but a sea of working families and small businesses that require a strong, unified voice.Outside of work, Cannon loves modern dance and uses it as a healing practice, having toured with NYC dance companies and created original reproductive justice dance pieces. Today, she lives in the Old Fourth Ward, in the condo her grandparents bought many years ago, two blocks from Emory Hospital, the Civic Center, and most importantly Krispy Kreme, where she often holds meetings. She is also a proud doggie mom. Nellie and Congress, her eight-year-old whippet and Yorkshire terrier, were adopted from the Atlanta Humane Society. They love kids and waiting with voters in line, just like their mama.
